Knitted "The Very Hungry Caterpillar Newborn Set" (on knitting looms)

Well Good Morning, everyone! Hope your Tuesday is going well so far?
If not, well I hope it gets better for you.

Today, I wanted to share my Hungry Caterpillar Newborn Set with you,  and with a "How-to".

It's quite simple. I make it on my looms. But I crochet the face parts. So lets begin shall we?

You will need Apple Red Homespun by Lion Brand Yarn for the hat
and
Pesto Homespun by Lion Brand for the Cocoon.

First you will need a small loom (infant size).
This is what you will knit the hat part on.
Note: If this is for a baby bigger than Newborn,
you need a bigger loom.

Click here to learn how to knit on a loom...
You will follow the exact hat steps as on that tutorial.

For the cocoon, it will need the next size.

Loom like normal with the e-wrap technique. It should be about 16 inches long. Then tie off like you would a hat to finish it off.

Now for the hat/face parts.

Lets start with the eyes...
With your green yarn, chain 3 and then join to the first chain forming a circle.
Chain 2, and then crochet 7 single crochets into the circle.
Slip stitch to join the circle again.
Chain 2 and repeat single chains into each chain all the way around again. Slip Stitch and then cut the yarn and pull the yarn through to make a knot.

With your yellow yarn (which is a thinner fiber), chain 2 into the chain you just knotted with the green yarn. And then proceed to single chain all the way around again into each chain. Repeat two more rows (for a total of 3 yellow rows).
When you cut your yarn be sure to cut a very long tail, you will use this to sew it onto the hat.

Make one more just like that and you've got a set of eyes.
Note: My eyes are never 100% the exact same size and its ok, I think it adds character and you really can't tell when you get it on the hat.

Now onto the antennas. Using a very dark purple yarn (mine is Gothic from Lion Brand), chain 15. Skip 3 chains and single crochet all the way back.

Once you arrive back down at the beginning, you'll skip only one chain, chain 1, and single chain into each chain all the way back up.

Once you arrive back up the top you will join the two sides together to form the antenna shape.
Push your needle through to the other side and slip stitch.
Repeat in each chain all the way back down.
When you arrive back at the beginning cut a very long tail, and tie it to the other starting yarn, make a couple of knots to secure it.

Now make on more of those critters.

The Nose...

Using black yarn, chain 2 crochet back to the first chain and slip stitch. Continue with a slip stitch going around and around. I wish I could explain it better than that, but you'll literally move to the next chain and slip stitch, and then move onto the next step and slip stitch. You will crochet in a circular motion.

When it looks to be about 20mm you can stop and cut a long tail again and make a knot.

Your next step is to sew each piece onto the hat. You can either use a yarn needle or you can use your crochet hook to weave the yarn in and out.

On the antennas make sure to go through the base of the antennas when sewing. This will help secure it better to the hat.

On the eyes make sure to go through each hole all the way around.

On the nose, sew all the way around the nose.

And now you should be done, and it should look like this...

A big thank you to Kelly Weier Photography for the baby photo!

I also sell these on Etsy, should  you want to purchase a set.

Thanks so much for tuning in guys! Until next time...
(which is tomorrow for Worthwhile Wednesdays, lol)
