Pinbellish

Welcome to Pinbellish!

A Pinning Celebration

Is everyone ready for 2016?

We finished 2015 with the Inaugural Pinbellish Awards. They were a little unexpected but we'll give everyone plenty of warning before the 2016 Awards, we'll keep the same 3 categories and there may be more added, tell us what categories you would like to see for 2016!

Winners get a special award button for their blog and finalists get a button too!

Here's to a fabulous year of Pinbellishing our pinterest boards with the best pins on the web!

Nappy Pin or Diaper Pin

In 19thC cloth diapers (nappies in Australia) were pinned with straight pins, then the safety pin emerged on the market and were found to be a safer option. Safety pins would sometimes pop open from the pressure of the fabric and the movements of the child, occasionally resulting in unpleasant injuries. This led to an additional safety mechanism that locked the pin closed. Pins were often bent from the bulk of the fabric causing the sharp pin spike to fall short of the closing mechanism and manufacturers began to make bent nappy pins to overcome this difficulty with the added bonus that the curve made it easier to push the pin back up through the fabric the layers.
