Day 1 of 12 Days of Christmas Series: Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Welcome all to the 1st day of the
12 Days of Christmas Series.

I changed it up a little this year. I am having the majority of the 12 days posted by other bloggers.

This will be less stress for me, and I'll get to sit back and enjoy the lovely crafts and recipes!

So without further ado..

These chocolate covered pretzels are easy to make, and always a crowd pleaser. I love to make them at Christmas time to give out to friends and teachers at school. It only takes me about 15 minutes to make them. Before you get started, prepare your work area. You'll need to space to make the chocolate covered pretzels and a space for them to cool and harden before storing.

Supplies Needed

  • Glass Bowl for melting chocolate in microwave
  • Plate or Bowl to catch loose sprinkles - Don't let those sprinkles go to waste!
  • Wax Paper - I prefer wax because I can peel the cooled chocolate off of it for remelting.
  • Cookie Sheets - I prefer these for cooling the chocolate covered pretzels. If you use a cooling rack, put a piece of wax paper underneath to catch anything that falls.

Melting the Chocolate

The key to this recipe is the microwave. Microwaving the chocolate is so much easier than melting it over a double boiler. 1. Fill your glass bowl with candy chocolates or chocolate chips. 2. Microwave on high for 1 minute. 3. Stir thoroughly. 4. Microwave for 30 seconds on high. 5. Stir thoroughly. 6. Only microwave again for 15 seconds if you see large bits of chocolate in the melted chocolate. The residual heat in the melted chocolate will melt the unmelted bits around it as you mix the chocolate. Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Ingredients

8 ounces of white chocolate chips or Candy Chocolate 2 teaspoons of Coconut Oil Utz Holiday Pretzels or your favorite mini pretzel shape Holiday Sprinkles

Instructions

Melt chocolate with coconut oil in microwave following the instructions for melting chocolate. Don't overheat the chocolate. There are 2 ways to cover a pretzel with chocolate. You can dip the pretzel into the melted chocolate with your fingers, leaving one part plain. Or, you can put the pretzel into the melted chocolate to completely cover it. Use 1 or 2 forks to remove the pretzel from the chocolate, and let the excess chocolate drip off. Holding the chocolate covered pretzel over wax paper, drop sprinkles on the chocolate and place pretzel on wax paper to cool and harden. Store pretzels in cool place, or in the refrigerator.

Fun Additions

Besides sprinkles, the universe is wide open when it comes to decorating your chocolate covered pretzels. Here's some ideas to get you started:
  • Melted Dark Chocolate drizzled over the White Chocolate and vice versa
  • Crushed Peppermint Candy Canes (Giant is carrying pre-crushed peppermint candy bits to save you time)
  • Crushed Nuts (Walnuts, Pecans, Almonds)
  • Crushed Nuts mixed with Sea Salt
