Frozen Inspired Queen Elsa Dress

Ok, all you Frozen enthusiasts,
I joined the band wagon too, lol.

My daughter loves the movie Frozen.
For months I heard nothing but "Let It Go"
sung by her all day, every day!

So the choice was clear when it came to
picking out her Halloween Costume.

ELSA, of course!

So here's the low down on how I made her dress, from scratch
(I proudly say)!

First I got one of her dresses, and I folded it in half and traced around it on a poster board.

I folded it on the back side in half and made a back side template.

Then I did the same for the bottom part, except I only did one side. I made the front and back equal.

This is actually two different materials, a silky teal color and then sheer teal print on top.

I folded the material and traced the front pattern onto it.

To make the V neck: while the material was still folded in half, I got a ruler and drew a small slanted line. Then cut it while it was in half.

Then I did the same process to make the point on the bottom of the blouse.

I repeated the same process using the back side top pattern.

I sewed the right sided together at the top, then flipped it over and pressed it. I did that to both the front and back side.

Then I sewed the sides together sheer
and sheer touching.
When you flip it right side out again, you will notice that there seemed to be more fabric on the back side, and that's exactly how it is supposed to be. The front and back pieces are not equal but look equal when you sew them together.

For the skirt: I did the same and folded my material in half and traced the pattern onto the fabric and then cut it. I repeated it again to make the back.

And for the liner I had a slightly greener color silky material and I cut two the same exact size.

Then I put them wrong side out.

I sewed the bottom of the skirt first flipped it over and pressed it to where the inside fabric wouldn't show (just the front parts first). Repeat the same step for the back side.

Then place the blue sides together and sew on the green fabric on the sides of the skirt, leaving the top part unsewn.

While your skirt is inside out, fold the waist down all the around about 1 1/2 inches and pin it down.
Of course you'll want a nice finished edge, so you'll fold it over twice but it will only be fold a total of 1 1/2 inches. Sew all the way around leaving a gap before you get to back to the beginning. That is where you'll put your elastic. Safety pin your elastic on one side and feed it through the slot. when you reach the other side sew the two ends together.

For the straps I got measured from the top of the blouse to to the back of her blouse over her shoulder. I then cut two 1 inch strips wide and the length I measured from chest to back
(can't remember the measurement).
Then fold your strap in half and sew the right sides together. Then take something long and skinny like a skewer and poke all the way through to turn it right side out. Iron the strap where the seam meets down the middle not the side.
That will be the inside of the strap facing the skin.
Then sew them in place.
That part is tricky though. I had her try the top part on again and I had safety pin the straps where they needed to be sewn on.

The silver part is trim sewn on. It was actually black, and I spray painted it silver, ssh don't tell anyone, lol.

For the cape:

I used about a half a yard, cut length wise.

I loosely machine sewed the top of it and pulled the string to gather it, and then sewed it to the back of the top. For the edges to prevent fraying I stitched a pattern I had on my sewing machine all the way around the edge of it.

And there you have it!

Now tune in Sunday night and I'll show you how to make the beanie crown/wig.

Thanks for tuning in!
Until next time...

  6. Hi guys! I ended up here by accident, but I'm very impressed with this post! We live in an era of digital technology. To achieve success today, in my opinion, a person should be talented in everything. I admire the young guys who, from scratch, are raising multimillion-dollar companies. It is wonderful to watch this. To develop our talents, we need to learn something new every day of our life. In our time, learning has become both more difficult and easier, harder because curriculum is improving but the level of necessary knowledge is growing. It’s easier because the guys from https://domyhomeworkfor.me/philosophy-homework-help continue to help students solve problems of varying complexity. Have a good day and good luck!
